Epakitin

My little Princess Missy (in the please advise message) has definately been diagnosed with CRF.

BUN is 71 --- creatnine is 3.1 USG - 1025 and HCT is 27. She feels lousy and does not want to eat.

Vet sold me Epakitin and said to give her 1 rounded teaspoon 2x a day. Problem is she vomits it up.

Now her vomit DID include hair. Today she ate, I gave her epakitin mixed with her canned KD and added pet tinic to it. Shortly after she vomited digested food.

I then gave her a pepcid (1/4 tab) and still she felt bad. I gave her 1 cc of reglan but still she felt bad. I then gave her 100 mils of lactated ringers and she shook like a leaf as she was gettiing them.

Soon as I pulled the needle out she went and hid but shortly she was back and lying on my legs in front of a space heater.

Later still I put her in her room on her heating pad and next to her space heater and then gave her 1/8 tab cyproheptidine. Shortly after she seemed to feel better and is asking for more food.

is it the Epakitin making her vomit? Should I just let her eat what she will first thing in the morning and an hour after she eats give her reglan and then an hour later her Epakitin and Pet tinic or what should I do?

I am so scared I am sick too! I was told she is over 12 and I originally though she was a younger cat!

Try pureeing raw beef kidney with an equal amount of water and offering that to her. This is good for her kidneys and they will often eat this when they refuse all else. You can try mixing the Epikatin with this. When you give lactated ringers solution under the skin, put the extra tubing from the administration set in a pan of hot tap water so that the fluid warms up as it goes through the tubing. Continue the reglan if the cat shows signs of vomiting or of nausea.
