Cat got hurt

Birchbeer6 Nov 27, 2006 06:48 AM

To make a long story short....Ive been introducing my cat to my now husbands dog....things were going really well this weekend...and Zoe (cat) came into the same room as Princess (dog) I was so happy that they were in the same room ..until something fell scared Zoe, Zoe was running all over the place to get away from Princess....which Princess thought she was playing.....when she finally got to her safe place....she was crying and limping....I immediately took her to the vet hospital....and they say her leg isnt broken but she has Left Rear Limb Lameness-Stifle Effusion....if I dont see any improvement she will need surgery......I just dont know how to help her.....also this am....she was trying to walk but this time she had her right leg up......I know the Dr. checked both legs...am I missing something.....

Both rear legs may have gotten hurt, and she is favoring the one that hurts more at the moment. Give her a little time and see how she progresses.

Ok so what do I do for her in the mean time...besides giving her meds....do I let her do what she feels she can do....do I have to carry her from one place to another......

Also what are your takes on the meds..Metacam .25cc every other day and Tramadol 10mg twice daily as needed.......I heard very bad things about these meds....and that they are not supposed to be used on cats

I would let her do what she feels like she can do and not give her any meds. You might add cod liver oil to her diet and maybe give her 1/4 tablet Traumeel twice a day.

Why should I stop her meds?????? I dont giver her the pain one...but did give her the anti inflammatory one last night...I just dont know what to do....I hear bad things about those meds....but then every vet I talked to uses them....I just want her to get better and be back to herself and not need surgery.....its been 3 days...and even though she kind of walks she still cries like its still bothering her.....should I wait a few more days...or do i have to take her back to the hospital for surgery......

For me to make any suggestions, I have to know the details of what is going on. What surgery did the vet recommend? Not having examined the cat myself, I can only picture what is going on by what you tell me. At this point I have no idea, so either you have to rely on your vet or you have to give me more complete information.
