spaying

hemera Dec 03, 2006 02:30 AM

Hello,
I am a new cat owner, I let a cat I found on my door inside the house. It is a male cat about 1,5-2 years old. I would like to hear your opinion as a holistic vet on spaying, please.
Secondly, I read a bit about the raw meat diet. It sounds reasonable to me, however I have concerns about the quality of the raw meat I will find. I cannot find organic meat and I am worried that the chemical additives in raw meat might actually hurt my cat. Am I right?
Thank you very much.

Male cats tend to mark their territory by spraying urine, so unless you enjoy the pungent scent of male cat urine, which gets stronger as the cat gets older, it is advisavle to have the cat neutered. As far as raw meat goes, you haven't said what you are feeding now. I assume it is a commercial cat food, either canned or dry. The meat that goes into that food is whatever the manufacturer can get cheaply, which is often something that is labeled as unfit for human consumption. Just remember that we live in an imperfect world where we may not be able to get the ideal meat to feed our cats, whatever is processed or disguised as something else is most likely of much inferior quality. At least with raw meat you can see and evaluate what you are getting.
