raw kidney

riverpoet Jan 10, 2007 08:08 PM

Dr. Tobin, you suggested raw kidney for my cat with CKD but I can't find any organic
source. Can you recommend one? Also worried about possible contamination. Please comment. Hope to hear from you. Riverpoet

Speak with your local butcher. The kidney is not a storage organ, so as long as the kidney is healthy, it should be fine.

Thanks, I'll ask about the kidney. You say it isn't a storage unit.

is that true of beef liver as well?

The cat seems to love it raw, but vet cautions about heavy metals and disease from raw liver. Any advice?

The liver only stores toxins in fat which replaces normal liver tissue, so the liver you feed your animals should be a dark red and not orange-looking.
