Cat with idiopathic chylothorax

RonCorcillo Apr 11, 2007 03:02 AM

I have a 6 yr. old spayed female cat who has recently developed idiopathic chylothorax. We've had an echocardiogram and there is no sign of heart disease, cancer, fungal infection, heartworm, etc. We are treating with Rutin (250mg 3x a day) but we still need to have her chest tapped about every four or five days. Do you know of any holistic/homeopathic treatments that might help?

Thank you!

There is a treatment which allows the torn Ductus Arteriosus to heal. It consists of feeding a fat-free diet for two days, then fasting the cat for two days and giving fluids under the skin, so the cat takes nothing by mouth. Since the duct walls are only a few cells thick, this is enough time for the walls to repair, as no lymph or chyle is moving through the duct, so none is leaking out.

Thank you! We'll give it a try.

One question: you said the Ductus Arteriosis. Did you mean the thoracic duct?

Thanks again!

Yes.
