8 month old kitten has roundworms

RaggyJude Apr 15, 2007 11:11 AM

My 8 month old kitten threw up a roundworm last night. It was long and spagetti like. He had pooped a few minutes before he threw up and it was mucous like. I had some of the 8in1 liquid wormer that removes roundworms. I gave him a dose based on his weight. The active ingredient is 250 mg piperazine bas as piperazine citrate for each 5 ml. He weighs just a little over 10 pounds so I gave him the dose for ten pounds which is 1 teaspoon. He pooped this morning and I did not see any worms in it. It was still mucousy and I scooped it out to take it to his vet along with the worm that he vomited on Monday.
Should he poop a lot after? Is there anything else that I can do in the meantime?

Thank you,

Jeri

The time you generally see roundworms is when the cat vomits. We look for worm eggs in the stool itself. The stool would likely remain mucousy for a few days even after the worms are killed, and the worm eggs would remain for a few days as well. You would be better off having the stool checked at the end of the week.
