vomiting

Dr. Tobin,

I've posted in the past about my cat's frequent vomiting and you suggested I cut out all dry food. He has been on a wet food only (CA Natural) for the past several months, yet he still vomits. It used to be a few times a week, but just recently he's vomited 7 times in the last 9 days, mostly small hairballs and clear fluid. He went on the Z/D diet a while back for allergies and it didn't help. I've been told that he either has general allergies or irritable bowel. But I'm not sure how either of these are diagnosed except that everything else has been ruled out.

He was just at the vet in February and after a CBC, urinalysis and blood pressure check he was found to be perfectly healthy. What else do you think it could be? Can cats suffer from stress? We just moved into a new house and that's when his vomiting got worse. Plus his sister just died suddenly from a heart attack 14 weeks ago and I've been very upset, so maybe he's picking up on that?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks,

Lisa

He may be vomiting from the hairballs. Brush him often to remove as much loose hair as possible. Add a teaspoon of psyllium husks to his food at each meal, along with enough water to restore the original consistancy. The fiber should help move the hair along. If that doesn't work, try sprinkling 1/4 tsp meat tenderizer on his food at each meal.
