diet advice please

juliannesmom Aug 19, 2007 05:10 PM

i've taken your advice about feeding my cat meat. i've tried everthing from beef sirloin, pork, beef and chicken liver and various fishes. she has decided now that the kind she really likes is chicken. so i buy hormone free, boned, skinned chicken breasts and bake them for her. she doesn't like raw chicken. i also still give her dry food. i've gone to evo by innova grain free. she's weighs about 10 pounds but should probably be around 9 pounds because she is a petite little thing and the 10 lbs. looks a bit too round on her little frame. i'm wondering. IS THIS A GOOD, COMPLETE DIET FOR HER? HOW MUCH - IN OUNCES - SHOULD I FEED HER? SHOULD I ELIMINATE THE DRY FOOD ALTOGETHER?
any advice would be appreciated. i feel like i'm winging it here.
thanks.

Innova EVO is grain-free but it is not carbohydrate-free. Carbohydrates are what adds weight, no matter from where they are derived, so I would stop the dry food. Make sure your cat gets enough bones to eat. And give her cod liver oil for essential fatty acids. She will eat until her needs are met and then stop.

ok. next on my shopping list: cod liver oil, bone meal, maybe try to find some chicken breasts with bones in them at my natural food store, or get some from the butcher there. i can't imagine her crunching up chicken bones. all i remember from having a dog is that you've got to be careful that you get the kind that don't splinter and choke them. i have much to learn about cats. i'll search through your forum for advice on the exact bones to get. thanks for your rapid reply.

one more thing - when i place the bowl of cut up chicken down, she lies down on the rug in front of her bowls and takes a piece of it out of the bowl with her paw then rolls her face and head over it and eventually eats it. could this be "lust for the kill" the little beast is displaying? she is purring heavily the whole time.
