injection site sarcoma

momsanangel Sep 07, 2007 07:23 AM

Hi, my cat, Catfish has this sarcoma. It started out as what we thought was a cyst & we ignored it. It grew & eventually opened up so we took him to the vet. We had that removed, but not sent off for biopsy. A couple months later another one came up not far from the last. We had it removed immediately & sent away for biopsy. It came back as cancer, sarcoma. This was about a month ago. Recently Catfish began having some breathing problems so I took him back to the vet where they did x-rays. The vet showed me the x-rays & I was floored. Could it be fluid in his lungs? There is fluid around one of his lungs. My vet didn't act like he wanted to further look into anything. He just told me that all that could be done had & I should be prepared to have fishy put down. Is there anything I can do to help him or make him more comfortable, I love this cat dearly, he's 8 yrs young, still strong & not 0, but full of life.
Thanks for listening, Denise

From what you wrote, it seems that the tumor has metastasized. There are some things you can do to slow the progression. The first is to stop all commercial food, as cancer cells need glucose, so we want to stop all carbohydrates. Feed fresh meat, especially chicken, with the bones. Add a tsp. of cod liver oil per day. Ask your vet to give him an injection under the skin of large animal Vit A and D, 0.5ml once a week. ;Also give Catfish a good mushroom combination immune stimulant, 1/2 capsule twice a day. This is a good starting point; see how the cat responds.

where do I find the immune stimulant you mentioned? And is there anything to help stimulate fishy's appetite?

You should be able to find the immune stimulant at a healthfood store. Try feeding him fresh chicken and see if he eats that well. It is often necessary to try a number of different things to get a cat to eat. Try chicken, beef, liver, all raw and cooked. You might also try several types of fish, raw, cooked, and canned. Go with what works.
