epakatin ?

mingdurga Oct 09, 2007 01:14 PM

My 6 year old female has the beginnings of KD. CBC and Urine analysis done a few days ago. An ultrasound made several months ago show one kidney smaller than other. My vet recommended starting her on epakatin. Read your note, dated Jan 5th, 07 about choices. I prefer natural, as in pureed kidney, but in a cat so young, which is the best route to go for the long term?

Thanks,

Mike

Epikatin does nothing to help restore the kidney. Its purpose is to bind lexcess phosphorus and nitrogen to reduce the symptoms associated with kidney failure. It is useful in the end stages of kidney failure, not the early stages.

What is best treatment for the early stages? Food? Medicine?

Thanks,

Mike

The best measures to take in the early stages of chronic kidney disease are to feed raw beef kidney, give Standard Process Renotrophin PMG, fish oil, N-acetyl cysteine, and DHEA.

What dosage do you recommend for a 6 1/2 yr.old female? Repeated how often?

I think they're all available in health food stores.

Thanks,

Mike

Kidneys are available from the butcher. Standard Process products are available only from licensed healthcare practitioners. Fish oil, 1/2 tsp/day. DHEA, 50mg/day. NAC, 500mg/day.
