Hi. I just noticed this morning that my female cat, who is 17 years old and has been in good health up until now, has a sudden bloody discharge from the vagina. About half a teaspoon. It is the normal colour red with a few small clots. She goes into the kitty litter box and acts as though she has to urinate but it could be because of the discharge. She has had bouts of a yeast infection in her gums which I have tried to keep under control but wonder if a yeast infection could be causing something like this. Need answers ASAP. Small town. Vet gone until Tuesday. Thank you.

I suspect your cat has a urinary tract infection. Give her homeopathic Cantharis 30c three times a day directly into her mouth until the bleeding stops, and d-mannose, 1/4 tsp twice a day in her food.

Thank you for your reply. You are correct. It was an UTI, which I did not suspect,at first, because there was blood but no urine, and no straining.
I did not have,at hand, your recommendations, and, because it was Sunday(stores closed)I tried cranberry capsules and juice and Uva Ursi (mixed with a little pureed cat food for palatability). I kept the bladder flushing by giving it every four hours( through the night, everytime I was sure she had urinated 90 percent of what I gave her)and, in 12 hours the urine was running clear.
Thank you, again, for your reply, Dr. Tobin. I will certainly keep your recommendation on hand.
