Worried about my 21month old!!!!!

assie2071 Nov 13, 2007 12:00 PM

I have a 21 month old NM kitten that I adopted as a baby. Lately he has been worrying me. Eating has always been his favorite part of the day, but recently he has been getting obsessed. He gets into the trash after empty cans and we had to lock up the dry food because he figured out how to open the air-tight tubs we keep it in. He is even jumping on counters after human food (until this point he's never been interested in human food). Then today I noticed he looked a little pale and felt cold so I took his temp and it was only 99.0F. Other than this he is acting fine, drinking normally no vomiting or diarrhea, normal litter box habits. Am I just over reacting or could something be wrong?

Aomething definitely is wrong; it sounds like he is anemic and has a subnormal temperature. He should be examined by a vet. His ravenous appetite indicates he is not getting the nutrients he needs, either because it is lacking in his diet or he is not properly digesting his food. You mentioned dry food; no cat should be eating dry food. At least for the moment, feed him fresh beef or chicken liver, not calves liver, and some fresh chicken, with the fat.
