Problems with megacolon.....

kammekammo Mar 07, 2008 09:12 AM

My 8 yr. old jack has been to the vet and was diagnosed with a mild case of megacolon. He was straining really hard to pass a stool so i took him to the vet and that is what they said. Well his brother jake died of this at age 3. I guess it was genetic and now jack has it. I tried everything the vet told me from pumpkin to enulose, high fiber diet to vasilene. Nothing seems to work. Is there anything else i can do yo help him out????!!!!! It's beem a few days since he pooped and i am looking to take him to a different vet. My current one dosen't seem to want to suggest anything but the formentioned. They seem like a animal assembly line vet. thanks

If more bulk hasn't helped, try les bulk; try feeding only meat and probiotics for a week. There are quite a few homeopathic remedies that are listed for "Inactivity of the rectum", but the choice depends on other symptoms and characteristics of the cat, so it would be necessary to consult with a homeopathic veterinarian.
