Kitten Rash on Butt/Genitalia Area

BlackHeartNY Jun 23, 2008 02:12 PM

Kitten is approximately 8 weeks old. His poop sticks to his butt a lot, so in turn, I have to clean him off often and I use a bit of Oatmeal shampoo. Last night I noticed his butt/genitalia area is all pink and very irritated. He did not like me cleaning him off because it seemed to hurt him. What can I use on him to clean him and help heal this rash? Thanks for the reply!

The oatmeal shampoo is a good cleaning agent, but you might want to put calendula ointment on the area after he is cleaned up, in order to heal the irritated tissues. However, the fact that the stool sticks to his rear tells me that there is a digestive problem. Give the kitten ground beef and bone meal, along with a probiotic or yogurt, instead of commercial cat food. And never feed a cat dry cat food.

Hello, and thank you for the reply. I have a couple of questions concerning the ground beef and probiotics.

1. Should the ground beef be raw or cooked?

2. Is there any particular probiotic I should use?

Thanks again!

Feed the ground beef raw. Any good quality human grade probiotic will do fine.
