kitten's baby teeth

solaandlunasmom Oct 12, 2008 09:35 PM

Hi there. I have a 6 month old kitten who's canines are growing in, but his baby teeth underneath haven't fallen out yet. The vet told me that if the teeth don't fall out on their own in a few weeks, he's going to have to be anesthetized and have them pulled out. I'd rather not do this of course, so I'm wondering if there are other ways to help encourage these teeth to fall out on their own? He eats wet only food (at your suggestion) and I'm wondering if that's why these teeth haven't fallen out? Should i give him so dry food temporarily just to help the teeth fall out?

Never give a cat dry food. The baby teeth are likely to fall out soon. You might give him chicken wing tips or other smaller chicken bones to give him something to chew on to give his teeth some resistance, but if the teeth don't fall out on their own, they can be pulled when you have him neutered, as he will be anesthetized at that time.

thanks for the advice. his teeth just fell out this morning. He has already been neutered, which is why I didn't want him to go under anesthetic again!
