cat cough/sneeze

solaandlunasmom Jan 06, 2009 12:16 PM

Every once in awhile my cat has a sort of cough-sneeze thing that he does that concerns me. It sounds like a reverse sneeze or a wheeze that i've heard short-snouted dogs do. I've talked to my vet about this and she just thinks it's allergies but it's winter and he still does it! He does have a mitral valve deficiancy and my concern is that it might be heart related. Any ideas?

A sneeze, or a reverse sneeze, is due to an irritation in the upper nasal passages. While it may be due to allerrgies, it is just as likely to be due to dust. You should note when it occurs, how often it occurs, and anything else that occurs around the same time. If it occurs seldom, it is probably of little concern.
