Selenium and Magnesium for cats ?

pola Mar 02, 2009 12:01 PM

My boyfriend wants to know if you can give a cat selenium, and if so, what dose for a one year old male kitty ? He is a solid black cat (half Siamese) and his solid black coat is starting to have a little red tint .

Also, he wants to know if cats might benefit from supplemental magnesium.
I said I would ask another holistic vet, since we are totally holistic.

Thank you !
Susan

Selenium is necessary for proper immune function among it many uses. A cat should get about 25 mcg daily. If the cat is getting some fresh meat, it is probably getting enough. Magnesium is generally taken associated with calcium. Too much magnesium can lead to loose stools, so be careful.
