minor kitten eye infection

jules82 Apr 05, 2009 03:55 PM

My 4.5 month old kitten seems to have a minor eye infection. She has a little bit of mucus build up in the corner of one eye. Nothing severe or worth a vet trip at this point but I have to wipe it clean a few times a day. Is there something natural or herbal I can use to disinfect it that is safe for cats?

Chamomile tea makes a good eyewash. This inflammation may be due to an upper respiratory infection, in which case homeopathic Feline Upper Respiratory Tract Nosodes may be of help, or perhaps Euphrasia. Make sure the kitten is getting a good diet of canned food or fresh meat, without dry food.

thanks for your reply and your advice. I will try the camomile wash first, although today it is begining to look better already. Both my cats get Wellness canned grain free cat food every morning, and they always have Wellness CORE grain free cat food in their bowl just in case we are not home early enough from work to feed them. I am aware cats do not need carbs or grains the way people do so I tried to find the lowest carb content and went with a grain free brand. Ideally i wanted to feed them a raw diet but unfortunatle due to work schedules it just was not possible.
Overall is this a good diet?

Wellness canned food is fine, but dry food is never a good diet.
