urinary tract blockage

bluemeadows May 11, 2009 06:05 PM

I have a ten year old neutered male who has just had a second bout of urinary blockage. He was also diagnosed with arthritis of the lower back. He is now receiving glucosimine daily over his food, metacam 1 drop daily, and adequan by injection twice a week. His food consists of wet feline cd and dry feline cd. He weighs ten pounds. I would like to know if he can receive adequan twice a week for over the original prescription as I noticed a pronounced increase in his pain when I reduced the frequency of the injections.

You can continue the Adequan without any problems. You might try giving him shark cartilage orally instead of or in addition to the glucosamine and Adequan. In any case, I suggest you stop the dry food in order to prevent a third urinary tract blockage.
