The "Big Eye" scare I had...

RayGun Oct 14, 2003 07:09 PM

Hello!
My first post here (waves to all)...

A week ago I had a scare with one of my two House Geckos (They're named Thing 1 and Thing 2). We noticed his eye was just BIG. I didn't know what was wrong, it didn't appear to be loose or injured, just way to big. I read what little I could find and guessed it was a molting problem. So my husband caught him gently and we dunked his head in some warm water. He hissed and spat, only he's so small it sounded so pitiful. Next day he'd molted all over and the eye was back to normal.

Has anyone else seen this? Do they start molting with the eye? Did dunking his head briefly in water help?

Thanks,
Regan

You didnt have to dunk him but it is a common condition. I believe it is caused by lack of either vitamin A or E, not positive. Happens a lot, I belive the way to stop it is to improve nutrition via gutloading crickets (if ofcourse the problem persists).
