I NEED HELP IN A BAD WAY....my babies are dying : (

UrbanAssault Oct 14, 2003 08:08 PM

About a month ago I had a clutch of babies hatch. Out of 10 eggs all 10 hatched. It has now been a month later and they were all doing well. I had one pass away. It was much smaller than all the others and was never quite as active. Two days later another passed. I came home today to find yet another one has died. They are fed greens daily and fed crickets twice a week that have been dusted. I have now seperated them into two tanks. The larger ones are in one tank and the smaller ones are in another. Temps are 97 on the heated end and 84.7 under the hide which is on the cooler end. I am using ZooMeds repti sand. Could fecal inpaction be causing the deaths? Are my temps to high? I need serious help. Any suggestions? I am getting them into a vet on friday but could use the help now!

If you can afford it, get a necrospy done. It'll rule in/out impaction. Put them on paper towels to be safe.

1) can the sand no good for dragons under 5-6 months old i say

2) you need to feed them better, crickets twice a week is too little protein. need pellets or animal matter not just veggies daily

3) temps should be higher 110F is recomended

sand.. outta there

>>2) you need to feed them better, crickets twice a week is too little protein. need pellets or animal matter not just veggies daily

these dragons need to be fed 2-3 times DAILYappropriatly sized crickets, no larger then the space between the eyes

>>3) temps should be higher 110F is recomended
they need a basking temp of between 105-115 to properly digest their food, it is absolutly necessary. the cool side should be 80-85, they need this temperature gradient for proper thermoregulation and digestion

how many daylight hours do they have? how many to an enclosure? how big are the enclosures? are you providing proper UVB and supplementing with calcium with D3 daily and a multivitamin weekly or twice weekly??

You have the right idea by separating the larger ones.. but they need a lot more protien than crickets twice a week would provide. You should be feeding crickets every day... even twice a day. I'd remove the sand as that will probably cause problems too (use paper towels). If they've only been feed crickets twice a week, the remaining dragons might not be far behind those that have already died. I'd start feeding them crickets 2-3 times a day along with greens.

The others are right

You should feed them at least once day...two and three times a day in small doses is how i feed
