600 for Veileds?

camo19 Oct 14, 2003 08:52 PM

Hi...I went to the pet store today and there were a pair of Veiled chameleons for 600. Is this a bit high for Veileds? I've seen them online for A LOT cheaper and am curious as to why they would be so high? Are some Veileds higher than others? Ok, thanks.

WOWSERS...yes, that is way over the top. How old are they? Adults or youngsters??? It's insane either way...at least I think it is.

Ya, thats way expensive! I would expect a really nice male panther thats about 2 or 3 years old to cost that, but never any veiled! Wow, they must not know what they have or are just crazy!

At the petstore I got Chammie from, they had a pair of breeding veiled chameleons more than a year old. Both of them together cost $200.

oh my god!! thats ridiculous, 600 for a veiled! the most I have ever seen charged for a veiled was 250 for an amazing 2 yr male. so unless this cham poops pearls and lays golden eggs or something these people are out of their minds.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I thought that was a bit high for Veileds. Not that Veileds are bad because I am wanting to get one but it just seemed REALLY high. I love Veileds, but have seen Panthors cheaper than how much those cost! I'm not sure on their ages but they didn't look too young as they were a pretty good size. They were REALLY sweet, though. As soon as I went up to their cages (two diff cages but sold as a pair) they both came right up to me. It was so cool! I love chameleons! I really wanted these, too bad they were so high. I don't like to support this pet store though as they take really bad care of the animals. I think they mainly just want to sell animal supplies basically because most of the animals and their cages don't look very good, also the cages that the animals are in are way too small. I feel really bad for them

Yes, I now how it feels to want to rescue everyone at a pet store...it's how I acquired my tarantula and my anoles - they were rescues for me

I recently went to a herp show where 4 R. brevicaudatus (pygmy leaf chams) were $20 a piece and they were old, unhealthy and very sad After losing my brevi’s in July I was tempted to rescue these but decided not to as I doubt there was much hope. It was difficult to walk away but I had to. Anyway….. If you are looking for veiled’s there are many available from relievable worthy breeders. Some of them post on this forum and then there is Kammerflage.

p.s. veiled typically run $75-$125

WE actually paid $200 for Roan, mostly because we didn't know any better.
When we rescued Jade, they were asking $200 for her. We walked in and offered them $100 for her, but they wouldn't bite at that. So we paid $150 for her.
They honestly shouldn't sell them here because without the internet for all your shopping and this forum for all your questions and concerns, they wouldn't survive. You can't get proper cages, lights, food, dusters, cricket food. Most of the reptiles on pei are gecko's and iguana's.
I know we are suckers for paying so much, but at least they have a good home.
