Does anyone know what type of Hognose this is? I saw one today at a nature trail I went to and the back was jet black and then it had a bright orange on the belly or the lower half of it all the way down to it's tail. What kind is this?

Probably an eastern from the description. If you gave us your location it would be easier. They are highly variable. Some can be jet black, some can be brindle, some can be yellowish, some can be red, and just about an combination of anything between those (and more). There are no "Types" per se. Andy

Sounds like a Red Phased Eastern. What part of the country are you in?
