MALE CALICO !!!!!!

PHritters Apr 05, 2003 10:00 PM

Meet Angelo. He he was turned into an animal shelter but will not be going out for adoption. They plan on keeping him as a mascot and for education purposes.

Not only is a male calico super rare, but this boy is also a polydactyl AND has blue eyes.

Wish I could Jariten, but this is a pic that was sent to me by a friend who works in the shelter where Angelo lives. I'll see if I can't get her to take a good pic of the tree and post later though.

Angelo is a gorgeous cat! I don't blame the shelter for wanting to keep him. What a wonderful mascot he'll be!

Well now....what an honor to have a fellow cat of distinction in our midst that is of the opposite gender. Wow! And a furry handsome calico too. But then again, ALL calicos are handsome and pretty. {giggle}

Hey, what about me! Thanks to certain meddling cats I too have been known to be a male calico.

And after so many yrs. of dealing with cats, including in a busy Boston shelter, we NEVER found a male calico - and we tried! He's a handsome boy and with those blue eyes he's absolutely irresistable!
Now don't go publishing this to the public or you'll have people pounding on the door to see this rarity! lol Glad the shelter is keeping him. Nancy

OK. Have to ask this. You say the shelter is keeping him for educational purposes and as a mascot. Why??? This is probably one cat I would be in favor of breeding, just to see what happened and if he throws calico male offspring. (I know, I've heard they are sterile but........) Also, due to the rarity of this, there is no way I would leave it in the shelter where so many infections go around. JMHO but I think this cat needs to be in an individual home with less exposure to any illnesses than will be at the shelter. In fact, I just told hubby I was volunteering to adopt this one. Seriously, I do think he needs to be living somewhere else besides the public shelter. Also, seriously, I (and probably several hundred others) would adopt him. Of course, all cats deserve a forever home but this one, if intact male, is a real rarity.

Angelo won't be around any cats with any possibility of disease. He will be neutered but as he would be sterile anyway it's for his own health benefit to be neutered as well as to prevent spraying. He has several humans who love him to pieces and spoil him rotten, plus instant access to medical care. I think he is much better off where he is
