What breed am I?

matt21zr Jul 20, 2003 04:32 AM

I recently took in this cat from an aqaintance. They told me they had her fixed, but apparently not because my extremely handsome flame point himalayan knocked her up. THe reason I haven't had him fixed is because I am still trying to learn a lot about the Himalyan breed before possibly starting to breed myself. Anyways, I've been told she looks like a calico but i have also been told she looks like a seal point himalayan. Not experienced enough yet to know for myself. I'm just curious if anybody who actually possibly knows what they are talking about could give me a guess. Her kittens are whitish gray like her and all look like they will develop the dark points. What am I supposed to tell the people who I sell them to what these things are? Thanks soo much for your help and time!! Please go to link for picture

The poor girl isn't a calico but is some sort of pointed cat with those dark ears and tail. Calico is not a breed of cat but is a coloration. Traditional calicos have orange and black patches and usually white areas underneath. There are also pastel or dilute calicos that are more peach and grey patches with white. Occasionally a calico will be mostly white with colored patches. They may be short, medium, or long-haired. You do see calicos in some breeds such as Persian but other breeds do not have calico colorations. I don't know about Himalayan. Calicos are not the same as torties which have the orange and black hairs intermingled rather than in sections. Please have your cat spayed soon before your male gets to her again. She can get pregnant at any time (even if she is not in heat) so don't assume that having kittens makes her "safe". Also, please consider neutering your male. Both cats would be healther and happier and you'd have much better companions. Katc

Hi, whatever breed she is, she is gorgeous! You may want to ask your question on the Cat Breed Forum...or maybe even on the Ask Showcat forum. She is not a calico, but she looks like some sort of DLH/himmie mix to me. I'm definitely no expert though. I also agree with Katc about having her spayed ASAP. Until you do, keep your male away from her. She CAN get pregnant while nursing kittens.
