Simba saw the vet this past Monday, and he had more blood tests, and they hydrated him (sub-cutaneous fluids). Since Mommy had her knee surgery 2/27, she hasn't been able to hydrate him as well as she did previously; of course, it could be that his improvement has made him strong enough to fight the hydrating more. The most important test results are below:
BUN (normal 16 to 36) - 2/14 135, 2/17 123, 2/24 74, 3/10 61
Creatine (normal 0.80 to 2.40) - 2/14 12.23, 2/17 9.65, 2/24 7.82, 3/10 5.95
Hemoglobin (normal 8 to 15) - 2/14 6.8, 2/24 6.1, 3/10 6.4
His kidney numbers are a bit better - they're now only about twice normal. His sodium and potassium numbers are now in the normal range. He's still very anemic, though slightly improving, though he's been getting an iron and potassium supplement (since 2/24), in addition to his special Purina N/F kidney function food. He is drinking a lot better since we got a Drinkwell free-flowing water fountain (he only wants to drink from a free-flowing fountain), and he is eating a bit better (with a lot of encouragement). Mommy's being home from work has allowed her to feed him whenever he shows interest at all, but she's supposed to start back to work Monday, if she can get into the van pool van with her crutches.
Simba finally started grooming himself and other cats and Mommy (lots of licking) about a week ago (he used to be the "biggest licker" in the household but stopped all licking when he was the sickest). He's even shown "tude" to the other male cats a few times, which is encouraging. Best of all, he slapped the rat-goggie (AKA Yorkie pup BoBo) twice today!
