Except that Pumpkin Pi's name was not "pie" as in "eat a pumpkin pie" but as in 'pi'~ 3.14 because little Miss Pumpkin Pi was 3.14 inches in length being a midget kitten. A good little kitten but a tiny one nevertheless.

Hey Pepper...dat is when my Mommy liffed dere. Wot wuz she doink dere? Granpa wuz in da Airforce at Hickham AFB. An we liffed on Hoowae St. She not remember no bar but she remember da 'kissink fish' at da Coi Pond and da Mynah birds at da International Market Place near Waikiki. An ob course, yucky poi...an yummy saimin. AND tarantulers..big fat hair spiders. An sunny rain storms and really BIG slugs...

Well, Dex and Pepper, daddy didn't liff in Pearl City, hims liffed out in Nanakuli. It was on Helelua St. not far frum da Kahe Point power station.
Da fings hims 'memeber is da booming sound ob da waves on da shore at Nanakuli Beach Park; how hot it would get in da late affurnoon and den a cooling breeze would start up. And when hims wood ride DaBus into work in da early morning, as they came along Farrington highway at Makakilo, seeing aww da clouds piled up over da Ko'olau meowntains - what a beuatiful site! Hims awso 'member da HUGE cockroaches - yu could awwmost saddle dem up and ride! MOL Den dere is aww da beautiful flowering twees, plumeria, etc. And seeing coco palms and rainbows efurywhere - Auwe! Hims is yearning to go back now!
And hims still luffs poi and laulau and raw fish!

Dexxtuh, Mom-Julie lived in Honolulu from August 1966 to June 1968 as she was attending the University of Hawaii (but she did not graduate from there; she transferred from there to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and graduated from there in 1969.).
She lived in The Trade Winds Apartments for about a year of that time which was directly across the street from the Iliki Hotel which was fantastical. She saw Pat Boone eating in the coffee shop there one night for example. Then for a while she lived with two other girls on LihoLiho Street in a tiny little apartment.
She has very good memories of Hawaii and has been back a number of times since. Honolulu has changed so drastically over the years, though, it is like night and day. There is no way to describe to people how 'it was back in the 60's' as it bears no resemblance to that Honolulu at all.
Poki, she remembers the plumeria trees so well and used to go to the cemetry to pick the plumeria flowers to make leis when friends were coming over from the mainland to visit! I am sure that was probably illegal but who was there to complain? The corpses? MOL
Anyway, those were the days. Mom-Julie was 20-22 then and it seems several lifetimes ago. She a grand 60 years old now.
