If you don't mind, what kind of budget? It would give us more to work with.

I know Albino hets are going pretty cheap now.

I would definitely go with the 100% het albino's then. I think that would be your best bet.

I would try to shoot for a trio of het ghosts. They are getting more and more popular again due to the combos that can be done with them and with 2 het females your odds are a little better to produce more morphs. This is just my opinion though.

Thanks for the responses. I will look into the ghosts and the albinos. I really like the pieds though. How much more would it cost to get started with them?

You could use your entire budget on one 100% male but if you keep back his daughters you could get there eventually.

Sure, if you want to speed things up and buy a pair of 100% hets it will cost more.

I was just pointing out that $1,000 would only get you a male 100% het pied but that you could still eventually produce a pied from that start with a little persistence and luck.

I sold my last 25% chance het pied male that I'm almost sure was a het based on the belly markers to a pet store for $25 after I couldn't sell it for $40 at my last show for the year (I'd already held him nearly 3 months). Someone e-mailed me about it the next day or so and I passed on the pet store contact info. Of course it would be at least 2007 but I bet someone could produce pieds for a $25 investment (or whatever the pet store sold it for, I tried to talk one of the employees into keeping it for a breeder).

So basically there are lots of options depending on how much you are willing to spend, how patient you are, and how much risk you are willing to accept that you might not really have the gene with a possible het project (which I believe the original poster implied he/she was not willing to accept).
