Welcome to kingsnake.com's message board system. Here you may share and discuss information with others about your favorite reptile and amphibian related topics such as care and feeding, caging requirements, permits and licenses, and more. Launched in 1997, the kingsnake.com message board system is one of the oldest and largest systems on the internet.

It's going to take a while to adjust.

Logging in is the only way for the system to know how to apply your personal preference options. Until you log in the system does not know who you are or even when you were last here.
The 'new' tags apply to all new posts that were made during the time frame after your last login time. If you didn't log in before you started reading then the system automatically is going to assume the posts are still new to you. It doesn't know any different because it relies on the time keeping of when people log in and out to track that information. Logging in is the only way for the system to keep track of time frames that tell it which posts to apply the new tags too as well as which posts to pull up when you click on the 'find new' link.
There are now several ways people can bring up posts as the search features were vastly improved, but if you really want to rely on the 'new' tags then you have to remember to log in before reading the forums.
In deference to the kingsnake.com members, we tried to set most of the system defaults to match how the old forums were bascially setup, so many of the new features may not be noticed right away unless you start playing around with the personal preference option settings or the manually toggle-able preference links. When the forums go live for all the other sites, many of the cat and dog folks are going to see that difference smack in the face since several of them prefer non-subthreaded disussions over sub-threaded and they'll have to either manually toggle the link to the other format or log in to apply their personal preferences each and every time they want to use the forums.
