Hi...I saw this frog at the pet store and now I can't remember the name of it. I think it was called a Pixy Frog. Does anyone have one of these? Do they make good pets? They're really cute. That was the first time I had ever seen one before.

Yeah, I have an adult male and they make grat pets but you will need at least a 40 gallon aquarium to keep an adult in sice they males get up to 9" and females to about 6". Their care is nearly the same as for pacman/horned frogs so tehy do meak really good pets, however if you are looking for a pretty frog, this is not it since they become a dull monotone color as they grow. I hope this helps.

Woah, they get to be big frogs. Wonder why they call them Pixy then. This one must have been a baby because it was really small, about an inch. How fast do they grow? Thanks for the information, it helped. I just have one more question...How much did you pay for yours? The one at the pet store was 25, is that a good price for a Pixy or not? Ok, thanks.
I just found some information on the net that said that there are two different types of Pixie Frogs...One being a regular and the other being a Dwarf Pixie. I think what I saw at the pet store was a Dwarf Pixie Frog. It only talked about the regular ones though. Do you know if the Dwarf Pixies keep their color and do you know how big they get? Sorry for all the questions, lol.
The dwarfs size is about 5 to 6 inches i believe. They do make great pets with the right care but you must remember that they are big guys and they do need a big tank. and like you i have always thought calling them pixie is a little off. lol here's a pic of mine.

The name pixie comes from their scientific name, Pixicephalus (I think I spelled that wrong). I don't know what the pixie part means but perhaps it doesn't mean 'tiny'. The cephalus part means 'head'.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?
The dwarfs get pretty big too for being a DWARF of a PIXIE! Just kidding, lol. Yours is really cool. Thanks for sharing the pic. Too bad they don't keep their colors and their size. I wonder why they don't keep their vibrant colors that they have when they're young? Do you know why? Thanks again Dana.
sorry bout that. my big guy is not a dwarf he is a regular african bullfrog.
