Well first of all you have to take into account your situation.
What climate do you live in? A house or an Apartment. Would you be able to keep the turtle outside or in an enclosure in the house. If indoors what is the largest size tank you could fit into the designated space?

After those considerations are made some ideas of what is most suitable for you could be given.

I think Austin's turtle page has lots of caresheets that might give you some ideas about what you might be able to handle.

The tank isn't all that big. I would see about some of the smaller mud turtles. They are good turtle to start out with. Now sure how available they in Australia. Check out caresheets on mud turtles. That would be a good starter with a tank that size.
