We're not floating yet

TheZooCrew Sep 08, 2011 11:06 PM

We're just checking in to let everykit know that we are okay. All around us is getting flooded, but our house is up high enough on a hill that we are outside the mandatory evacuation area. The place where we used to live, West Pittston, PA, is flooding now worse than it did during the Agnes flood in 1972, but we are on the other side of the river now. Our city is flooding too, but not our part of it. Lots of our friends from church had to evacuate, though, and our pastors are opening up the church where Mommy works as a shelter for some of our church friends who need a place to go. The river is supposed to crest tomorrow morning at 8am tomorrow.

Thanks, Franci. We're GLOWING too. Lots of our friends are in shelters tonight, both humans and critters. Mommy is friends with two sisters. One lives near us, the other lives across the Susquehanna from us. The family on the other side of the river had to evacuate with their two dogs to the other sister's house. Another family that Mommy is friends with, in fact, she has been our cat-sitter on a few occasions, has had to evacuate with the family and nine cats had to evacuate, and the water is up to their second floor. The girl who also is one of our cat sitters and who is the one who originally adopted our foster cat, Calley, before she had to move, also had to evacuate. There are dozens of our friends who had to leave their homes to the raging Susquehanna here throughout Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties. We live about six blocks from the river, but fortunately for us, it's six blocks up hill, and the water is not reaching our street.

Purrs,

BamBam

Cuddles sees the little ones at the door and bounces with joy. He thinks for a minute, then tells the little kits that the river water is not safe to surf because there's nasty stuff in there like heating oil, propane, mud, and all kinds of yucky stuff. It's also kind of dangerous because it flows too fast.

But wait! Katie's in the tub and she makes some pretty huge waves of her own! He grabs BamBam's surfboard and pushes open the bathroom door. He sets the surfboard at one end of the tub and says, Okay, Katie, do your thing! Katie does her mermaid dive, and a huge wave rises up and carries the surfboard to the other end of the tub, but all the kittens are soaked!

Thanks for the GLOWS, everyone. We stayed dry at our house. Our friend who had to go to her sister's house found out that there was three feet of water in her first floor, but the stuff she had moved up to the second floor is okay. We haven't heard from the other family who has the nine cats yet. Mommy's been trying to call their cellphone but not getting any answer. Lots of people lost almost everything, so although we don't need the GLOWS ourselves, please keep GLOWING for those who do. Thanks!

We'rew so glad you kits and your family is safe and dry. But we feel furry furry bad for the humans and animals in th elfooded areas. There just so many peeps what are losing everything. We sending GLOW to everyone in the flood areas.

Us too, Riley. It is heartbreaking. Mommy is collecting some stuff that Katie has outgrown, both clothes and toys, to donate to families that might need them.
