Are All "Mercury Vapor" Bulbs Alike???

SaveFerris Oct 15, 2003 10:25 AM

On Ebay they have 'Mercury Vapor Bulbs' that arent specifically for reptiles, but they're DOG-GONE CHEAP!

Do they put out the needed UV light because they are 'mercury vapor'?

I followed the links and i have never seen those lights before. There are plenty of M.V. bulbs in the classifieds and Big Apple sells theres for i beleive 34.99. I use powersuns and have been happy with them. Some i hear are not very good meaning blowing out fast.
I'm not a numbers person so maybe someone can answer how much they put out an so on.
By the way, as for the link with that tiny bulb M.V. bulb i would pass on that. Doesn't look like it will do much. Not sure about that headlight looking one lol..

I don't think they will have the same UVB output. Reptile MV bulbs are made to provide a substantial amount of UVB.

I have T-Rex and when it fell apart after 4 months they replaced it free of charge and no hassle.
