Is anybody going to the show in Hamburg, PA this weekend? It would be nice to meet people that have Uros.
I'm going to get the lights, vitamins and other stuff I need to set up my cage for my Somali Uro.

Absolutely going ..... never miss a Hamburg show!
This time its an all weekend show .... I'll head up on Sunday.
Probably will not buy much though ... I might pick up the new thin uromastyx/agama booklet by Bartlett though as I haven't seen it.
Anyone have this book and recommend it or is it just more of the same old same old basics?
I'll be there getting more "toys" for my babies! Just a lil FYI - If you're looking for a cage, I just purchased a melamine one from
http://www.royalpropagation.homestead.com/
The 3'L x 2'D x 18"H is on sale for $150. The guy who makes them is really really nice. Only downfall, it takes approximately two weeks after you place the order to get. If you can hold out, its actually a really good deal.
Maybe I'll see you there!!! About 5 of my friends and I are going to be there on Saturday! I can't wait!!! Good luck with your Uro!

Thank you for responding to my post. How will know each other at the show? If I can find it, I'll be wearing a black tee-shirt with a Frill dragon and Beardies on it.

"How will we know each other at the show?" i thought of that the day of (sat.) at 7am when we were about to leave. Unfortunately, my friends internet stinks and sometimes we can't get kingsnake to load. I have the same problem with cable internet too. ANyway, I did go to the show and it was great!
Let me know if you got anything!!!??? what'd you think and if you go to another one we'll definatley be more prepared to find each other! LOL.

Hi Tara,
It was a great show. They had alot of beautiful snakes. One guy had a fat Cobra and it kept opening its hood.
They had lots of Beardies;mostly babies and that light brown color. Only a few red ones. I picked one up from an open cage and it just sat there in the palm of my hand as if it knew me all it's life. I didn't know they got so big. I saw a girl there and she had one on a leash on her chest. There was a couple breeders that had Uros so I got to pick one up for the first time. I touched its tail to see if it would stick me, but it wasn't that bad.
Acouple breeders had spiders and other bugs; I stay away from that stuff. It'll give me nightmares. Some Frilled Dragons, lots of Chams and Geckos.
I bought a 8 1/2 in. ceramic light fixture with the aluminum cover. I bought Herptivite vitamins a large rock cave even though the Uro I'm getting is a juvie. A large food bowl, Iguana juv. chow and some artificial cactus decorations.
I really had a fun day.Oh almost forgot. I got up close to a Blue Tongue Skink for the first time. It was sitting on top of it's cage . I started petting it and it walked right up my arm to my shouder and sat there. The breeder said he wants to go home with you. Hah Next time I go I'll get on. I'd like to read up on them first before I get one.
As soon as I get my bird seed substrate for my Somali Uro I will set up his cave and have him sent from Deer Fern Farms. I got my Visions cage from him. He's a really nice guy to talk to and he answers his email.

Hello, I was at the Hamburg,Pa. show, last weekend. It was my first herp show, and I really enjoyed it. The cobras and giant rattle snakes were intimidating. I went there looking for a beardie. Well, I bought a baby. I walked over to the guy in the corner with the Uromastyx collection, and I just had to have one. I got a Mali. Well, the little guy must still be acclimating himself; because he hasnt eaten anything yet.His cage temp is right, and he just loves to be held. How long until he starts to eat?
Ahhhh, it was like being in a candy store. It was neat being able to hold some of the lizards, being able to get up close to poisonous snakes without being bitten. I had a Blue Tongue Skink crawl up my arm to my shoudle and he sat there. I never knew how friendly they were. It's 3:45 am and I think I'm repeating myself from one of my last posts.Sorry.

I was at the show Sunday and here's my assessment of the uro's I saw.
EVERY uro there that I saw was wild caught with most being sold by "flesh peddlers" interested in nothing but your $$$
Wild caught geyri stacked 3 deep in a tank for $39.99 ea... what a deal huh? - NOT.
Someone in this thread mentioned "breeders" ... please don't confuse the many wild caught animal brokers that frequent this show with actual uromastyx breeders.
One guy had extremly sick/dehydrated macfads there and when asked said these two very desirable animals were $165 ea. When I pointed out how very unlikely these 2 unfortunate half dead animals were to survive he lowered the price to $120 for both. I ended up not attempting this rescue because quite frankly I don't want to encourage him buying more for resale.(one of these animals was so ill it wouldn't even right itself after being turned over on its back)
Careful who you buy from at this show as many appear to care, are charming and seem knowledgable to a novice but will say anything to move merchandise including claiming that clearly wild caught animals are captive bred. Also be aware that you encourage and make dealing in wild caught uromastyx profitable for these types when buying from them.
There are some very dedicated breeders of uromastyx out there but unfortunately they don't attend this show due to being too far away.
Next time you purchase a uro think if the $ you MAY possibly save by buying a wild caught animal is worth supporting a trade where MOST animals ultimately perish.
There's no excuse for purchasing wild caught uros these days unless breeding and needing bloodlines. Almost every uro species available as wild caught is available as captive bred these days and the real breeders deserve the support.
