Fence lizards in San Diego...

herperjames Oct 15, 2003 01:56 PM

Are fence lizards ever found in urban areas in Southern California? I might be moving to San Diego, and where I live right now there are no lizards, but I love them and would love to be able to find them without travelling too far from home. In Florida I found anoles at the Miami airport- are lizards in California anywhere near this abundant? It would be a dream come true to have herps in my backyard :D

Be happy: With the exception of most parts of downtown San Diego, you find S. occidentalis everywhere in any garden. For other Sceloporus species you have leave town..but not for far.
Also you can find Uta stansburiana within the city limit, especially close to the beaches.
So lots of lizards around-and I mentioned only those species which can not be overseen
