Important Question Please Look And Help -

Beardie_br0z Oct 15, 2003 02:55 PM

I just got my new beardie today in the mail. He has the most colors i've seen in a 5week old. Ive got 2 imporant questions. Here goes.
The new guy doesnt like when my other beardie goes near him and flattens out. My mom said before she saw the older guy running after the lil guy. I didn't know that the new guy was so small when i was buying him ( not that i wouldnt have gotten him if i knew he was this small ) and figured why not keep the 2 females together. My older girl weighs 30grams and this guy weighs a meer 4 grams at 5weeks old. If you all have seen the way my rack is setup im trying to seperate the tank maybe in the middle and they could both get enough heat. Right now ( for the moment ) i have the lil guy in a rubbermaid under the light in his lil enclosure. I have him on sand but i cant remember whats the age they should be put on sand? Any Ideas of what to do. Maybe just because my new guy is new they will get used to each other or what? Is it ok to keep them 2 together or the lil 1 to small?
Please try and help, This guy wasnt cheap and I wanna make sure im doin everything right to keep them both in healthy condition. Also the eggs are gonna hatch soon. My stepdad is gonna start building a baby rack for the lil guys.. Im gonna post a seperate post about the eggs next. Ill attach a picture of the rack that there in now there on the bottom one with sifted sand a reptisun 80wat bulb i think not sure about the wattage but its hot.

They can't be kept together. The size difference is too great. There could be baby lizard for lunch if you try it.

The bigger one could eat the little one.

Contact the breeder you got the new girl from to find out how she has been kept to provide the same type setup and therefore less stress on the new girl.

Good Luck

I would not put them together at all right now. First thing is that little guy is WAY to small to be house with one that is so much bigger. The next reason would be for quarantine purposes. Most people keep them separate from 90 days and a few clean fecals. So, if he has a disease, then the one you had him with runs the risk of now having it and also the other way around. Keep them separate until he shows no signs of disease and them make sure they are “about” the same length and weight.
Good luck,
Steve

At 5 weeks? My babies were 2 and 3 grams straight out of the egg!!! They grew to 4 grams in like 3 days. Are you sure the baby is healthy now? I'd say take it to a vet and feed the hell out of it.
By all means do not keep them together!!

im sorry but im just amazed that you just threw them in there together, im sure it was you before that came here for advice and didnt bother to take it then either about breeding,i cant beleive you are breeding? or perhaps your dad is breeding, knows what he is doing but you are coming here to find information for yourself.??? im not trying to be mean but we are talking about living breathing creatures and care must be taken to see to it that things are done properly. that new dragon should have been in quarantine for no less then 60 days preferably 90 and 2 clear fecals 2 weeks apart. seperate them, i would think that if you see that sort of aggression between 2 dragons especially wth a size difference like you describe,it would be the first and most logical thing to do aside from not having had put them together in the first place.

Get rid of the sand as well. The dragon should be at least 10" long or bigger before you can put them on washed play sand. Paper towel is fine for now.
