Smelly stools? VERY smelly stools...

abstractcypher Oct 15, 2003 04:13 PM

i was cleaning up the poop out of her cage today and my newly aquired female decided to show me how she gets down. Well that was fine, nothing I havent seen before. but what was different was how it smelled. I could smell it from across the room
! It was that bad.
Now I remember hearing something about that but I cant figure out where and what. If anybody can fill me in that be awesome. Thanks.

if its really runbny and very very smelly it could be coccidia.. i would take her to the vet and have a fecal done.

A lot of times if the poop is runny and VERY smelly a fecal should be done. The main suspect would be coccidia if the smell is really that bad.

I have also found that feeding crickets tend to make the poop smell worse.

What if the stools are smelly yet not runny? Smeagol, my new 4-5 month old beardie stools smell bad compared to Gollum my other 4-5 month old that i've had for a few months, but the stools are well formed. Gollum thinks his smell like roses compared to Smeagol's and i'd have to agree.

As others have said, this is mostly the sign of a parasite, usually coccidia.

This is one of the other main reasons you should quarantine new animals - aside from the potential health risks of putting in a 1 year old female straight in with a male after bring her home.

Chances are, your male also has coccidia, if that is indeed what your female has.

You should get fecals done on both of your beardies, separate them immediately, if you haven't done so already, and be prepared to treat them both.
