URGENT!!! NEED ADVICE NOW!!!!!!

Georgia Oct 15, 2003 07:50 PM

Has anyone had any experience w/ an ig eating a fishing lure? We let our cat play with one, and just as the cat left it along, Egor the wonderful, goes over and swallows it immediately. I called Animal Emergency, and they said we could either take her in and they could x-ray to see if it needs to be sergically removed, or we could monitor her over the night and call our vet in the morning, keeping in mind that the emergency didn't have much knowledge or training on reptiles in general. We're planning on calling in the morning, but I'm just wondering what anyone else would do in this situation. She's feeling fine and isn't acting weird or anything, so I'm at a loss for words right now. I don't know what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Georgia, and the oh so loving EGOR!!!!

My emergency doesn't want to deal with iguanas. More than likely, it will have to be surgically removed. As long as there is no sharp point, she should be ok till tomorrow.

My son swallowed a wood screw when he was five. They x-rayed ot for days. Pins and similar objects must be surgically removed. Round objects are ok as long as they can pass. Iguanas are good about impacting themselves with strange objects.

Thanks for the quick advice. Do you think this might be passable? I hope so, because i'm broke right now and dont' have the money to have it surgically removed. I'll definately call the vet in the morning. BTW, when you said "son" did you mean in real life, or ur iggie? Just another off topic question.
Thanks again.

My real life son swallowed an 1 1/2" inch wood screw. Been there. Chuckle. I have the x-rays forever.

As to whether he can pass it, is he pooping? Did it come out? Gross to have to search, huh?

Oh, I'd know it if she passed it, it's pretty big. We called the vet this morning, who said they'd go down her throat and remove it, for ONLY 100-150!!!! that's something i'm happy to hear! So, wish us luck for tomorrow morning.
thanks again
