Timor Monitors

Blissguy123 Oct 15, 2003 07:59 PM

I don't know if anyone has made a post about Timor monitors recently, but... does anybody know of any website that i could get care sheets for them. Or if anyone could give there personal info. on them that would be greatly apreciated. And by the way, are they a good starter monitor?

Thanks very mush

Keith

I dont know, but that questions the question of the month. You can just scroll down a little and find some posts regarding Timors.
To paraphrase...
Timors are generally flighty, nervous, and secretive. They can pack a nasty bite, and generally do not like being handled. In short, no, I do not reccomend them as a "beginners" monitor. There are few peope who are suited to having these monitors. IMO

All the best!

Perhaps it's Timor import season... I wonder if they're showing up in pet stores now?
(P.S. I must be special or easily amused, Tweek's my only monitor and I'm pretty happy with him. I suspect I'm easily amused.)

Hahahaha!!!!! Thats too funny!!! Man, that name woulda been perfect for my smaller female Timor! I still havent named her nor the new girl. I still have yet to name my Burm and both of my Indicus' for that matter. A friend said I was wierd after he found out half of my critters dont have names. I dont know, I cant just name something without it fitting. You gotta get a feel for the animal before you name it. Its gotta fit, ya know? Like my BT Hewey, for example. I could name him right away, because he grew like a weed, and hes kinda dopy looking(i mean that in the nicest way)! Baby Hewey! My male Timor Pudge, well he always looks gravid! My MBD nile, her name is Lucky. When she came to me she couldnt walk, and had no teeth. Shes still got some deformities and is stunted(just over 1 year old and only about 20 in!), but pretty fit overall, and can grip ya pretty well now!
My cats, on the other hand, all have pretty gay names! Precious, cupcake, buttercup, angel(a boy), Bella(I usually call her belly, cause shes ALL belly!), and Sabastian. The last one was my b-friends doing! I think he looks more like a creampuff!

I wonder if there are any breeders out there that name all of their animals? I dont think i could handle that task!!

I have over 20 sand boas and they ALL have names. How else would I keep them straight?
Tweek was easy though. One of our friends was over and came in the room just in time to see him diving for cover. He said 'You should name him Tweek, like that guy in South Park!'. This was much better than the name we were using for him before, Timmy.

I'd like to add that I definately did NOT buy a Timor because it looked so much like a baby nile.

I second the above reply, but will add...

There are a lot of timors around - wild caught for the most part. The two that I have are absolutely crazed...get you a nice captive-born ackie from Goanna Ranch or ProExotics, or any of the other fine breeders, and you will be much happier!
Ackies are really cool, or if you want something bigger get a nice white-throat...again, spend the money for captive born! There are not lots of them out there - everyone is still learning - but I truly believe you would be much, much, happier, and you can learn about monitors while having fun, rather that worrying if the thing is going to take a piece of your finger or escape under the refrigerator or die from some parasite (I've been through the first two with Timors).

Just my 2 cents...
