What do I need to keep hots in Virginia?

guttersnacks Oct 15, 2003 08:54 PM

Im thinking about getting into keeping venoumous stuff, and I live in Virginia. Nothing too outrageous or exotic, just native US stuff like massasaugas or copperheads.
Is anyone familiar with what I'll need to please whichever agency might want to do me in for having such animals.
Thanx in advance

Virginia Law allows the keeping of venomous reptiles, with the exception of the Brown Tree Snake (Boiga irregularis), including up to five (5) each of any native species. The catch is that you will have to check with your local (county, town, city or village) ordinances to ensure there aren't restrictions on keeping "dangerous" animals or "exotic" animals, as the local ordinances do vary from locality to locality. Most of the time you can look the local ordinances up on the Internet, but you are better off calling your local courthouse to speak with someone. If you care to disclose your location a little more exactly, I might be able to help you with the information you seek.
