air circulation?

compasscreek Oct 15, 2003 10:26 PM

a couple weeks ago i started and have nearly finished "tenting half of my garage to make a room for my chameleons. it's pretty much all done but since moving them into the kitchen the garage has sorta taken a "backseat".

one of the things pointed out to my as a potential problem was air circulation. at first i went the easy route and bought a small air conditioner thinking it would solve the "problem", but ended up taking the thing back because i didn't think it blew enough. this past weekend i was i on the far side of the kitchen looking at the cages and noticed the ceiling fan. it's aways been there, i just had this idea that maybe if i put a ceiling fan in the "room" in the garage that would solve my problem with circulation. do you think this would work?

I still am waiting to see pics of your garage to see what all you've done to it lol. I don't think anyone understood how you were explaining it. Sounds interesting. You don't need a whole lot of air circulating in a chameleon room to keep ventilation going. All I have is the swamp cooler in the summer that blows a decent breeze in my garage and now that it's cooling down, I've got a fan (about 18" diameter) that is up on a stand about 4 feet high that rotates back and fourth and you can turn it on for 1,2,4 or 8 hours at a time with an auto shutoff. It blows just hard enough that I can just barely see leaves in the cages moving a little bit. I'm gonna get a heater for my garage this weekend. It's been getting kinda cool at night, around 60 outside, 65 in my garage. I wish I could keep chameleons in my house though for real. The only thing that is in my house pertaining to chameleons is their eggs. Funny how all this stuff I love is banished to the garage and the 3 baby tortoises we have get a nice warm sopt in the dining room.

i also bought a long radiate heater that you can set the temp. on and duration for the garage but i need/want to get a thermostat for it to have better control. after some research and help from a couple friends and know what thermostat i want but it's $100 and i want two. AND since my chameloen are in the house i'm not preasured to get them. i know my days in the kitchen are numbered and i have to finish the garage but having the chameleons inside sure as eased my mind AND bought my some time to fix their room up right.

as for what the room looks like picture a cain style tent with the rafters as the roof of the tent and "L" shaped tables with cages on them in one corner and 8 feet of light fixures inside the tent above the tables.
