Hi everyone,
I just caught a salamander today in my sistern. I go down there a few times a year and have seen this guy every time for at least two years. He always sits on this rock that I put down there when I caught a frog that managed to get in there. I think he's a northern red salamander, although his black dots on top of the orange are much longer, maybe its because it is completely dark in there all the time.
I have him in a 3 gallon aquarium/terrarium, with a little pool of gravel and a sloping gravel bank that gives him some dry area too.
I am obsessed with animals and have kept all sorts including a horse, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs and cats, snakes, turtles, finches and parakeets, and three frogs. I've never had a salamander or read about them, so I have a lot of questions. Here they are:
> What should I feed him? I'm planning on feeding him bugs and worms and stuff I find, as well as possibly some frog and tadpole food I have. What about guppies and other small feeder fish; will he catch and eat them out of the water?
> What do you think about the above mentioned tank?
> Is there anything that you all recommend I do differently?
Thanks,
Taylor
