Beardie Stress

whasmack Oct 15, 2003 10:55 PM

I just got a new baby beardie, it's been about 2 days, and he's darkened in color. From what I've read, it's becaused he's stressed out.
He's living in a 30 gallon cage. The temp usually stays around 90 on the bottom on the warmer side. I don't have a lot of decorations in the cage though. Water bowl, rather big half-log to hide under or crawl over, and an average size(bout 8" -12" of driftwood. I have a UVB bulb and a heat bulb running.
Anything I should or can do to calm him down?

What's the temp right under his basking light? At least 100?

I would hope so. I have a 100watt Red heat bulb about 3 inches from the very top of the drift wood.

You aren't sure? A digital thermometer would give you correct readings.

I've never used a red heat bulb. Is it bright like a regular bulb? Beardies seem to do much better with bright lights.

The red heat bulb is not bright at all. It shows very little red light.

Change to a bright light and pitch the red bulb. Get your basking spot up to around 105. Are you also using a uvb source?
