Breeding Advise Please....

Hope someone can help,

Ok, the situation is, i have two BP's that are housed together. I was going to seperate them next month and re-intoduce them around Febuary time in hope that they would breed. The thing is over the past few weeks i have noticed a number of times they are already copulating. What should i do, seperate them and stick to my original plan to re-introduce in the early spring or just leave them to it as they seem to have already started?

The only thing is that i wanted to feed the female up a little before she was gravid. Although she is well within a good weight to cope.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated....thanks in advance. Ade.

I am no expert, but I successfully bred a pair of bps and common boas last year and ended up with 8 healthy bp babies, and 19 healthy baby boas. In my humble opinion from my experience, and from what I have read, LET THEM GO AT IT MAN! You can try feeding the female during down times if you feel like it, but if she is already at an ok weight as you suggested, I would probably leave them alone. In addition to that, don't be in a hurry to separate them after you think the breeding has stopped. I thought for sure my pair of bps had stopped for the season, but I didn't have another cage yet so I planned on just leaving the male in with the female until about the time she was supposed to lay eggs since I figured he wouldn't pose a possible problem until that time. Well, sure enough, the she cycle I thought was her pre-ovulatory shed ended up not being so and they copulated again after that shed. Then a month later came her true pre-ovulatory shed, and not long after that some gorgeous babies!

Good luck, I don't know why no one else is replying, I know there are many people on here much more experienced than me. If you have any other questions feel free to ask, I love talking bps, especially when it has to do with breeding!

I'd separate them once a week for three days or so for feeding and rest, but at this point the cycle is already started so I would not separate them until Jan or Feb...Just be sure you have good temps and plenty of room for mom to thermoregulate!

Good luck!
