Babyfood, and Pedialyte

ecb Oct 16, 2003 10:11 AM

Erowen has been looking at the food, but not eating, so last night I started feeding her PediaLamb with her medication syringe
she took almost 3cc of food/Pedialyte mix last night, when I tried to open her mouth the way marcia recomended (pulling gently on the dewlap) the skin stuck together.
So, this mornign I fed her again, and would give her 2cc of food Pedialyte mix, then one of just pedialyte
She took just over 5cc of food, and 3cc of Pedialyte, and seemed better about taking it this morning (not fighting me about opening her mouth as much)
I put one silkworm in her mouth, and it went down, but she does not seem at all interested in them, nor do the babies. Ah well, live and learn, then get Hugs (or in this case Crickets)

Elizabeth, I would say the pediolyte is a good call. After laying a clutch of eggs she has most likely depleted all nutrient and energy reserves. If she is using the water that is a good sign but sometimes the pediolyte will stimulate the appetite. Another thing you may want to consider is dosing her with a little extra calcium. When I have had a female who looks particularly drawn after laying eggs I will give the liquid as directed on the bottle. I am not sure of dosing right off and don't recall who made the drops I use but there are two products, liquid calcium and solar drops or vitamin D.

Hope she starts eating again soon. Little buggers shouldn't worry us so!
