Homemade cricket gutload

trevoro Oct 16, 2003 12:17 PM

Are there any sites out there that have something on how to make your own cricket gutload similar to what they sell on www.cricketfood.com? I emailed them if they ship to Canada and they don't because the shipping costs are far higher than cost of the product itself.

Also, is there any products that would be sold in any chain stores that are good?

Right now I use veggies and fruits but I am looking for an alternative.

You can find it at any feed store. I'm not sure if you have feed stores in Canada, but if you do, chicken egg-layer mash is a wonderful gutload food for your crickets. And it's very cheap! Here in Alabama, it's only $4 for a 5 pound bag! It's lasted me 3 months already!

Try your local feed store. Ours actually carries a "cricket feed" which can either be fed to crickets as a gut-load or the crickets can be housed in containers with thin layer of the "cricket feed" along the bottom. I also supplement the cricket feed with oranges, carrots, & potatoes along with leftover greens from a.m. feedings. Good luck finding some, Teresa.
