i am in central jersey, monmouth county, and the vet i used in an emergency was Ok...there are a few others up here that are highly regarded...look in the phone book tho. just say uromastyx and if they are like what is that, nevermind, but if they know then it is one to consider. lol you dont know how many 'reptile' vets i called and said uromastyx, and were like wait whats that?
Good luck!

I had to laugh when I saw your post about when mentioning a uro to a vet! Its definately the truth. I found a place near me that sounded like they knew what he was, but may have been just playing it cool. Anyway, I think Kameko might have a parasite. How he picked that up is beyond me... probably at school from some other kid... JK.

Thanks frution!

If you have a general idea of what he has, then just take him to a vet that sort of sounds like what they are tlaking about and just tell them what you need, lol, thats what i did when my female had a bacterial infection. I asked around and got the information on how to treat it and just went to the vet, got her exact dose, which ANY vet should be able to do, then treated her. Panacur should treat most parasites, unless you really have no clue about what is wrong with your uro, then just use the vet for the meds. When my female had her infection, i couldnt find the correct amount of Flagyl to give her, and couldn't find the liquid form, so it was just better i took her. They did have to look in a vet book on reptiles to fidn the dose per gram however...A good reptile vet is hard to come by!
Good luck, where in NJ are you?
I am in Atlantic Highlands, right by Sandy Hook.

Here's my dilemma, kameko is a PICKY eater Soooo I would probably have to force feed him. His lack of appetite and increased sleeping might be due to the brumation and the parasites. who knows. i'm going to bring in a "sample" to have a fecal done bc gettin him there is virtually impossible. Some days he likes me, others he doesn't. Thats a juvie for you.

Do you knw if the meds can be injected??? how long do you have to give them to the uro???

I'm in the Cherry HIll. Marlton, Rowan University area. My parents live by Wayne/Ringwood/Skyline Drive area! Of course I know where sandy hook is! LOL i think everyone in jersey has been on a field trip there! Of course, i have to ask "what exit you from?" I hope you get that.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

i get off at 114 that is like 15 minutes to my house. As for the meds, they get taken orally. When i had to do this for my female i just wiggled in the syringe at the corner of her mouth put a little bit in then they kinda open their mouths to take it in, then i stuck the syringe in and quickly shot the rest in her mouth. When she had this it took 2 weeks 2 times a day, very small doses which i mixed with water to get a little extra water in her. good luck

you might be able to help me, sorry if this is gross....

yesterday, I found what looked to be small, white, round "egg-like" things not IN his poop, but it came out after it. There was maybe 15-20 in there. The first thing that came to mind was "eggs" of some sort and after doing some research in the archives it might be "flukes". I emailed doug dix, but haven't heard back yet.

What do you guys suggest???

thanks,

tara

PS- waiting for him to "go again" so that i can bring a "fresh" fecal to the vet. ugh

Thats not any issue. Normally they poop normal looking brown poop kinda like a log. Then right after they poop out white colored stuff, also solid. This is totally normal i cannot think of the name of it off hand maybe someone else will. I wouldnt take it to the vet unless the borwn stuff is mushy or runny.

Good luck
