Reverse copulation Q

tortusjack May 28, 2003 02:20 PM

Suddenly I'm inundated with females trying to mate with the males.
By this I mean the females are attempting to "be on top".
Now if this was just a single species I could possibley understand, but hey, I've got two species doing the same in their individual specie pens. (Leo's & Russians)
Whats going on, has anybody else had this happen.
I'm guessing it's a "I'm ready for you" thing, or perhaps "it's in the water"....

Hi!

Not sure on why this is happening, but my yellowfoot female does that all the time.

Hi Graham, When my "girls" do that, i put Ivan in with them! It also happens in cattle and sheep-means they're ready! Spring is in the air!

Your guess is as good as anyones. I've seen this in many species with sometimes 3 to 4 in a row. That is, 3 to 4 individuals stacked/lined up in a row in no particular order. I've also seen this with 5 inch Aldabras (which kind of disputes the 'I'm ready' theory). Some believe it is a dominance thing. Me...? I just think its raging hormones. Until we break the Chelonian language barrier... it's anyones guess.
