3 months, 1 egg from female. comments please?

jedmondsflyeyes May 28, 2003 02:34 PM

3 months ago, my very first egg appeard. it was sterile and i went on with life. however, that is the only egg which my leo has produced. nothing has changed as far as housing, diet, and lighting for my leos. i had the female her entire life, so i know that the one egg i was able to get was her very first. the terrarium i built would be about 15 square feet with a single male and a single female in it. both are eating, regularly shed, are active at night, and appear to be healthy. any comments would be appreciated!

thanks!

jason

if she LOOKS like she is gravid (ie you can see the eggs inside of her) and she's not laying THEN you should be worried...but if she doesn't look gravid then she should be fine, i think it's possible that she didn't get any sperm from mating, but i'm not an expert

she may be too young or small. What is her weight?

Hi,

Its not too uncommon for a little lady to lay only one egg her first time. She hasn't laid anymore and she's still eating and all that good stuff, so I wouldn't be too worried. Usually if they are eggbound they stop eating and really start to thin out near the hind legs, at least this is what I've noticed. If there's some eggbinding going on I really dont think she'd have lasted three months, usually when the egg solidfies a turn for the worst happens rather quickly... Hope that helped.

Though she might not. If she looks like she about to burst around the stomach i would take her to a vet and find out the problem. If not, then dont worry and she might not have gotten any sperm like the other person said. L8er
