dagangsta Oct 16, 2003 04:24 PM

ok, first off about how many crickets will a baby bd eat a day, and also do most bearded dragon's end up eating just about only veggies, or do most continue to eat crix, and if they do continue with crix, about how many when they are older, another thing is about how long would a baby be ok in a 20 gallon long tank for? and hmm, i think thats about it for now, o yea, wait, um, how much is a reasonable price for a baby bd at a reptile show?

Beardies are really great. I just got mine the end of september. My baerdie will eat around 20 crickets a day plus I'm pretty sure he eats some of his greens too. I usually find pieces laying around so I guess thats a sign. As for the 20 gallon long, I will tell you right now that beardies grow FAST!!! Mine has grown a lot since I got him. I started him out in a 10gallon but he was there for like 2 days before I took the advice of someone else and moved him into his more roomy 29gal. He is probably about 2 maybe 2 1/2 months old now and I can tell in another month it will be gettin more cramped in the 29gal. If you will be able to get a new cage in a month or two I'd say that it will be fine in the 20 for now. I have seen beardies for $25 before, but do not always go by price. Look for quality. Ask the breeder about his background in breeding them. Look for bright alert animals. Look at their feet and tail for nips. However they may be sleepy from having to get up so early in the morning to go to a show, or could be cooler than normal. Don't get a runt. Pick the best. Generally better breeders sell for more, but look at how healthy their animals are. You will probably expect to see them between $25-50 for normal phase beardies. Just to remind you that you need a UVB source and a high heat source(basking spot 110degrees). Good luck I definately recommend one if you have what you need and understand their needs! Oh yeah when you get a UVB bulb get the self ballasted murcury ones. Much stronger and last longer

Baby bearded dragons can eat anywhere between 20-60 crickets a day. You should feed them at least twice a day as many appropriately sized crickets they can eat in 10-15 minutes. (cricket size should not exceed the space between the dragon's eyes). Greens should be offered every day and left with the dragon. Babies don't tend to eat many greens as they are more interested in the crickets for the protein they need to grow.

Once dragons reach 10-12 months old, they should be eating mostly greens with crickets 2-3 times a week.

A 20 gal tank is not going to last long, a month or two at most, depending on size of dragon when you buy him and how fast he grows. I started with a 35 gal tank which lasted me three months before I moved her into the large 5'x2'x2' cage. My dragon was 8" when I bought him and 14" when I moved her into the new tank.
